You wake up in the morning and “Oh No!” part of your electrical system is not working. What do you do? We can help. The first thing you should do is check your circuit breakers (or fuses) and Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlets to see if one is tripped. If one of your circuit breakers is tripped, try resetting it by turning it all the way off and then back on. If a GFCI is tripped, push the reset button.

A panel upgrade or “change out” is usually required to alleviate a problem with the existing panel. Sometimes a breaker might overheat to the point that the buss bar in a panel gets burned. The conductors between the meter and panel may become loose and burn out the main lugs, especially common when aluminum conductors were used. Split-buss panels, cheap builder-grade panels, panels contaminated by water, paint and corrosive environments are often candidates for replacement.

Surges are sudden and unexpected spikes in voltage that travel throughout your home electrical system. Some surges come from within your own home, such as turning on a dryer or sending a document to your printer. Other surges come from outside your home, as in electric utility switching, downed power poles, cut power lines, and lightning strikes. Surge can even enter through cable televisions and telephone wiring.

Recessed lights are usually used by architects and interior designers in rooms where the residents aim for a relaxed and soothing lighting effect. Recessed lighting is considered preferable to the use of multiple standing and side table lamps based on the mood they can induce in the occupant of the room. You will discover why interior designers are using recessed lighting when you enter a room that has recessed lights in them – to see is to believe, as they say.

Home generators are designed to provide electricity in times of power outages or utility company malfunctions for a short duration of time. Home stand-by generators not only provide lighting for the house in case of power outages but also may, depending on their capacity, provide power to run appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, furnaces, televisions and heaters.

Dock & Landscape Lighting
Landscape lighting can add value and enjoyment to your property. Inexpensive landscape lighting can be set up by the do-it-yourselfer using solar stand-alone fixtures. These fixtures contain photocells that turn the lights on after dark. They also include batteries for storage.

Pool & Spa Connections
Everyone knows that electricity and water are not a good combination, especially when you are sitting in your pool or Spa. With fiber-optic lighting, there is never a chance of an electric shock, or worse, an electrocution. This is because with fiber-optics, there is no electrical wiring near the pool, only light. Options include changing colors and remote control of your fiber optic lighting.

Under Counter Lighting
The kitchen is one of the most well used rooms in your home, and it is important for it to be as accommodating as humanly possible. The problem is that most kitchens are not equipped with adequate lighting for the cooking and food preparation that goes on in there. You want to see that you are doing everything right.

Knob & Tube Rewire
Knob and Tube wiring does not provide a third wire for grounding and is therefore considered unsafe in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and outdoors. In other areas, knob and tube wiring that is in good condition with sheathing intact, properly protected from damage, and that hasn't been subjected to extended periods of overloading which can cause it to become brittle, should not pose an increased safety risk.

Home Safety Inspections
Home inspections make good sense whether buying, selling or remodeling a home. Understanding your home’s electrical systems and components are critical when it comes to purchase, repair and maintenance decisions. In fact, the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) recommends that homeowners have their homes inspected by a qualified licensed electrician if the home is 40 or more years old, if the home is 10 or more years old that has had major renovation, an addition or major new appliance or you are the new owner of a previously owned home.
